INVITED KEYNOTE PRESENTERS

The Summit 2017 Invited Keynote speakers include Dr. Robbie Melton, associate vice chancellor of mobilization and emerging technology for Tennessee Board of Regents; and Dr. Robert Blaine, dean of undergraduate studies and cyber learning at Jackson State University. We are delighted to welcome these two internationally renowned figures of online learning innovations as keynote speakers and ambassadors of the 2017 Summit.

Robert Blaine, conductor, soloist and scholar balances diverse artistic and academic worlds with agility and aplomb. Serving as Tougaloo College’s Associate Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Blaine has held positions as Dean of Undergraduate Studies and CyberLearning; Director of the Quality enhancement Plan - GEAR (Global Education through Analytical Reasoning) and Professor of Music & Director of Orchestral Studies at Jackson State University. Robert Blaine is highly active through his multifaceted career. Dr. Blaine has long been interested in the intersection between art, teaching and technology. His role as conductor of Tougaloo College’s ConneXions and Jackson State University’s CyberLearning initiatives provides leadership for the development of 21st century learning environments for students and faculty. Dr. Blaine’s most recent leadership initiatives have resulted in the development of CORE, Curriculum Outcomes Redesigned for Engagement, a redesign of the Tougaloo College undergraduate curriculum, which coalesces an interdisciplinary, collaborative curriculum of project-based and problem-based assessment, accelerated by technology-enabled learning. The curricular innovations of CORE are partnered with career pathways through ConneXions, a digital portal that illuminates student’s individual career pathways through service learning, alumni mentored professional networks, internships, and career network partners. Robert Blaine’s previous work at Jackson State University developed INNOVATE, a center for the development and dissemination of digital content; CREATE, a center for project-based learning; the Digital Core, an interdisciplinary general education core delivered as multi-touch digital textbooks; and the recent designation as an Apple Distinguished School and Institutional Partner of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Robert Blaine is an Apple Distinguished Educator, TEDx presenter and an endorsing artist of the C. G. Conn Company. Musically, Dr. Blaine performs on Conn instruments exclusively.

Dr. Robbie K. Melton Associate Vice Chancellor for Emerging Mobile IoT Technologies Robbie.Melton@tbr.edu Biography Dr. Robbie Melton serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Emerging Mobile IoT (The Internet of Things) Technologies for the Tennessee Board of Regents, tenured full ranked professor at Tennessee State University. She formerly served for ten years as the chief administrator responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of Tennessee Board of Regents System Wide Regents Online Campus Collaborative (ROCC): Regents Online Degree Programs (RODP) and Regents Online Continuing Education (ROCE). Her tributes include the 2016 OLC Leadership Award, WCET Life Time Achievement; 2014 Top 30 Technologists, Transformers, and Trailblazers by the Center for Digital Education; 2013 Apple Distinguished Educator, 2012 Top Fifty Technology Innovation Educator from the Center for Digital Education and Converge; 2012 WCET WOW Education Technology Award; featured speaker at the United Nation UNESCO Mobile Learning Symposium She acquired a new moniker as an ‘Appologist, due to her extensive research of the pedagogy and best teaching practices with mobile devices (smart phone, tablets, wearable, IoT Smart EduGadgets, virtual-augmented reality, and for her creation of a Mobile App Education and Workforce Resource Center. Her current research initiatives are, “The Internet of Everything – Smart Devices, Gadgets and Tools, and the use of Mixed Reality of VR/AR/ Holograms, and wearable technology.
