I am an Associate Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry at California State University, East Bay. I have taught G.E. courses in chemistry as well as several majors-level and graduate courses in general, organic, and biochemistry. I regularly use innovative and engaging teaching strategies in my courses and have particular expertise in teaching large enrollment courses (e.g., 250 students). I am one member of the key science faculty involved in several K-12 science teacher development programs (e.g., IMSS, NASA Liftoff, and East Bay Science Project). I am the principal investigator on key grants from the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation to implement K-8 science teacher programs (e.g., Foundational-Level General Science Program, FLGS, Phases I and II). I am leading this virtual community to help faculty and teachers respond to the curriculum content and pedagogical changes necessitated by NGSS and CCSS-M. In-person opportunities for educators to discuss these changes will occur at conferences to be held in Northern California in October 2013 and Southern California in February 2014.
