Have you used a learning material from MERLOT in your teaching?
Not yet but I plan to
Describe your role in education
I will be starting an internship at Parlier Jr. High School soon. I wear two hats. First one is a student in the credential program at California State University, Fresno. My second hat is an adjunct professor of biology for State Center Community College District, where I am currently teaching human biology.

Hi Krystal!
How're your 2 hats fitting together this semester?
Science Olympiad is around the corner - so we're busier than ever. I have a new TA/observer in my room this semester. The kids are getting really used to this... : )
I welcome you to our MERLOT Voices online learning community. I know you will find the online experience and connection to a wealth of teaching and learning materials of great value over time. I look forward to your contributions to this growing online community in the years ahead.
Thanks
Our A team took second for high school, so we'll be going to the NorCal state competition on April 18. And so it continues.... This is our 3rd year to go to NorCal - and to place 2nd at regional. Before that we got stuck at 4th place for about 3 years.
As a fellow adjunct faculty member and co-founder of an organization committed to the improvement of teaching at the college/university level, I thought I'd introduce myself and send along our website address:
Our programs offer adjunct faculty a choice to complete only an instructional component designed to make them better teachers, or to also complete a testing component and receive certification as a Certified Adjunct Faculty Educator (C.A.F.E.)
Check us out! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching endeavors.
Hi Krystal - just noticed (again) that you are teaching physical science this year and didn't feel prepared. Have you been able to identify materials for your class? If you need help, I'd be happy to connect you with some resources. If it would be more efficient, contact me by standard email (brendar@csufresno.edu).
One very good resource for physical science is Introductory Physical Science (IPS). It has been around for awhile, yet I consider it still one of the best resources available. It covers physics and chemistry topics and is very hands on. If you would like to borrow my copy for examination, I'd be happy to help you out.
Also, there are some physical science teachers who are part of the Merlot Voices Modeling Science group who are working to develop lessons in modeling style (the way I teach) following their work in our summer modeing workshops. You've seen modeling in action, and if you would like to be part of the conversation, you'd be welcome to join the group. Monica Bravo (who was part of the ChemTeach group you visited last winter) has posted an outline developed by the physical science teachers in our Fresno workshop group in the Physical Science discussion thread. They plan to develop and share lessons over the year to fit with that outline. If you're intersted, go to the Modeling Science group and request to be added. I'll OK your request. The workshop group will also be meeting 5 times this year to practice, share, and collaborate. If you think this would be helpful, you could join us.
You have been added to the Modeling Science group : )
Our 5 meetings are on Saturdays, the first is 9/12. Location TBA (at CSUF).
I start back on Wednesday with faculty meetings. When would be a good time for you to connect to get the book?

I think I saw you at CSUF yesterday (?) afternoon as I was leaving. Were you on campus?
