Describe your role in education
I presently serve as Instructional Communications Officer for Navy Medicine Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education Command in Bethesda, Maryland. My duties involve crafting the strategic vision and direction for Navy medical training and education through best practices in contemporary technology integration.
Thanks sure, I would love to share and explore technologies. As a matter of fact I was looking at DimDim this morning as a possible venue for live classes. but additionally you can record the entire presentation to offer for asynchronous learning as well. It is a pretty handsome venue with tons of features and free if you use 20 or less participants at a time. Have you ever looked at them? There are so many wonderful open source things "out there" these days to enhance teaching efforts for the online and tradtional learners.I think it is worth looking into and very user friendly: http://www.dimdim.com/
Critical Discourse Analysis! How interesting. Seems you are doing some very facinating work. I have been intrigued with the role that Information Systems is playing in the medical area- have you delved into that? What kind of classes are you offering? I did join WiziQ a couple of years ago, but frankly have not done anything with it. Do you offer classes through that platform? If so I would love to learn more about how effective they are in that venue.
My interests in educational technology include learning management systems - our school, board uses D2L (Desire to Learn). We used to use WebCT. I enjoy developing curriculum on D2L, and have used it in my classroom for several years with junior high students. Currently, I am helping with training in D2L with several high schools in the system.
