I tried using an analogy of drawing stick figures to represent people for drawing Lewis structures to represent molecules to broach the topic. Then I taught them the rules via direct instruction (e.g., central atom is usually written at the beginning of the chemical formulas, etc.). This was not too successful. Then, I used Lewis structure manipulative from my master teacher for students to use to help them draw structures from chemical formulas. The manipulative seemed to help them understand.
Hi Melissa,
I far from mastering Merlot Voices. It's pretty easy to add your photo as part of your web site. Just go to the "My Page" tab, then look on the left hand column below the silhouette where it says "Change My Photo." Click on "My Photo" and follow the instructions on uploading your picture (you can use a jpg, etc.).
